We shouldn't have to drop our standards to the lowest common denominator. Lousy photos, whether large or small will still be lousy photos!

If an agent can't take good photos, they need to hire someone who will.

I vote for more thumbnails, and click for larger!

Good post about photos and real estate! I agree with you both, mostly however with Marc - and this is only because of the very truthful statement about the photos that most agents submit - they are usually sub-quality. If there was a higher standard of practice regarding the quality of photos submitted, I would agree with Stacey on more thumbnails. ;-)

Great article Stacy.

I want to insert one thought though for you and your readers to think about. When searching eBay or iStock or Amazon, I agree that small photos are fine. Especially on iStock because every photo is professionally taken and maximized for thumbnail viewing. And each costs a few bucks to buy.

But homes are a different story. There are no standards for photography and most agents take lousy pics. Hence they are not maximized for thumbnail viewing and often times, a user can easily pass over a home because of the photo.

Considering the suggested retail cost of a home, the need for agents to outdo their competition, the extra mile they ought to go for their sellers, there's no question in my mind, creating a gallery view featuring one larger pic to represent a home in list view is a prudent differentiator and great bonus to users.

Thanks for opportunity to share.
